Call of Cthulhu RPG resources

(Posted March 10, 2001)

Our friend Bach has convinced everyone to try playing Call of Cthulhu. Here's some information on it I collected -- I had to do this because although we've purchased numerous books and game things, we managed not to get the actual main CoC rulebook. (It turns out it has been out of print and only as of 2/26/01 has it gone back into print! So we're not that incompetent after all....) So we're checking online resources and here are a bunch of them:

Read this first - it explains the game, how gameplay goes (ie, what an RPG is) and is the perfect introduction to this game. It's a few short pages--read it now.

Introduction to H.P. Lovecraft and his Cthulhuic writings (which the game is based upon):

This is the description of the main rulebook: http://www.chaosium.com/cthulhu/rpg/2386.shtml

One CoC webring that has 299 websites in it... http://nav.webring.yahoo.com/hub?ring=cthulhu&list

A CoC character generator (PC only) http://www.fantasylibrary.com/lounge/cocgen12.zip

Looks like there are a bunch of possibly useful CoC game-related links here: http://www.io.com/~girthlin/web_coc.html

That ought to keep ya busy.

Any other suggestions? I'm not interested in delving further into the Cthulhuian Mythos or Lovecraftian fact or fiction; just interested if there's resources out there a beginning CoC RPG'er should know about. Let me know; send me email at cthulhu@fullerbecker.com!
